The young Croatian philosopher, writer and political activist Srećko Horvat (1983) is one of the leading voices of his generation. The 2008 Subversive Festival in Zagreb was his initiative. His writings include After the End of History: From the Arab Spring to the Occupy Movement (2013) and together with Slavoj Žižek What does Europe want? The Union and its Discontents (2014). In 2015, together with Yanis Varoufakis, he set up the Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (DiEM25). His starting point for this lecture will be Fernando Pessoa’s novel The Anarchist Banker and he will be discussing different models and practices for changing a political-economic system from within.
