Building the movement, together: Portugal

On December 19, our DiEM25 volunteer groups (DSCs) in Lisbon and Oeiras held a joint meeting for all their members and all DiEMers based in the Lisbon area.
We welcomed new DiEM25 members to the Lisbon DSC, eager to get involved in the movement. And we discussed the possibility of forming a new DSC south of Lisbon. We also had the pleasure of hosting a member of DSC Barcelona 2.
We then moved on to discuss European May, the initiative launched by our Berlin DSC which has the support of other DSCs within DIEM25, as well as of The European Movement, European Collective and European Alternatives. It consists of a series of disruptive, peaceful actions to take place on the week between the May 1 and 9, whose goal is to upset the status quo and create a united front between progressive forces, facing up to rising nationalist and far-right extremists.
We had a spirited discussion over the types of activities we should undertake and which local movements we should contact and get in touch with. We came up with a first action plan and have started to move towards its implementation.
It was a very productive meeting and all those present were enthusiastic for what 2019 has in store and for further collaboration, joint meetings and actions.
If you want to get in touch or collaborate with these DSCs you can write to us on oeiras1dsc@pt.diem25.org and lisboa1dsc@pt.diem25.org. We would be happy to get in touch!
