Why do billionaires pay nothing?
Most of us pay tax. Even if we don’t have much. Some of it goes to the State for our schools, our roads, our hospitals and our environment.
However, there comes a point when you can have so much money that you can afford not to give any of it away. This is the world of tax avoidance: a legal method for the rich and powerful to buy services that allow them to keep all of their wealth, even though it is made on the backs of ordinary workers and in detriment to the environment.
This system is the epitome of capital-addiction, and we cannot allow it to destroy our communities and our planet.
Each year we need 1115 billion euros to pay for the green transition. And each year we lose 1000 billion euros because of tax evasion and tax avoidance. We will not allow our future to be robbed so that a few billionaires can fill their pockets. It’s time for justice!
The Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (DiEM25) calls on all progressives and democrats to unite in the struggle to secure our future from the rich, the selfish and the powerful.
The launch of this fight will be in the capital of Tax Avoidance in Europe: Luxembourg City, Place de l’europe, March 28, 2020 at 14:00.
On March 28, we urge people, movements, organisations, parties and unions from across Europe to join us in claiming our right to a just, sustainable, democratic world.
The fight for justice for our communities and justice for the planet has a common opponent: selfishness. Let’s unite to defeat it.
