Ban Amazon lobbyists from the European Parliament

Amazon treats our democratic institutions like it treats its workers: with contempt. Two weeks ago, Members of the European Parliament blasted Amazon management after they refused to attend a hearing organised by its Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL).

In 2021, Amazon refused to testify at a previous hearing. And in December 2023, Amazon cancelled a planned visit by a parliamentary delegation to its warehouses in Germany and Poland.

Now, the coordinators for the major political groups on the committee have written to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, to demand Amazon lobbyists be banned until they engage in a respectful dialogue.

The parliamentarians think it’s unreasonable for Amazon to be lobbying them while refusing to subject themselves to democratic scrutiny. It is now up to the European Parliament authorities to implement the ban.

Over 30 trade unions and civil society groups have signed an open letter supporting the parliamentarians’ demand. Let them know that you support them too. Sign now to send a message to President Metsola that you want Amazon lobbyists banned. To the European Parliament: Ban Amazon lobbyists now.

Amazon refused to attend a hearing in the European Parliament – and not for the first time. Now, EU legislators call for Amazon lobbyists to be banned from the building.

Who are we?

The Make Amazon Pay campaign brings together over 80 organisations working towards labour, tax, climate, data and racial justice, and over 400 parliamentarians and tens of thousands of supporters from across the world. Since 2020, we have organised five global days of action — each time growing our planetary movement to stop Amazon squeezing workers, communities and the planet. And in October 2023, we organised our first-ever Summit to Make Amazon Pay in Manchester, UK.
