MERA25 Germany will run in general election and elects first candidates in Bavaria

A statement from the coordination team of MERA25 and DiEM25 in Germany

After our European election campaign, the next elections are just around the corner. MERA25 is currently collecting signatures for the election in Hamburg in March 2025. But the German general election in September 2025 is also casting its shadow and the members of DiEM25 have made an important decision: MERA25 Germany will run in the 2025 general election.

The members of our international movement consider the election a worthy goal for the development of our organisation in Germany, because there is no alternative like ours in the German political landscape. It is surprising, but there is literally no other progressive party that supports a free Palestine, i.e. that consistently campaigns internationally for peace policy and equal rights for all people. And which at the same time advocates a policy for the many in Germany and, for example, wants to consistently implement the socialisation of basic goods such as housing, electricity, heat and water.

MERA25 Bavaria is making the start

In order to run for office, we will set up our own lists in as many federal states as possible. Our new state association in Bavaria kicked things off on October 13. We are proud that the list in Bavaria includes 17 motivated candidates, more than the nationwide list for the European elections in June. All members on the ground will now set about founding new local groups and collecting the 2,000 signatures needed to run in Bavaria.

Our historic responsibility

The other federal states will follow step by step. For anyone interested in cooperation or support, we welcome ideas and are open to anything that can help put pressure on the German government against its support for genocide. Because this is our historical responsibility.

All those who want to help change the political landscape in Germany, develop our programme further and stand up for the equality of all people, we call on you to join now. It’s time for something new!
