MERA25 Germany takes on the establishment: 2025 German National Election, here we come!

MERA25, the German political party of DiEM25, is pleased to announce its participation in the upcoming German National Elections 2025. Having successfully completed the collection of signatures, MERA25 is now entering the campaign phase in the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Berlin and Bremen.

MERA25 is ready to build a future based on social and economic justice, where the needs of the poorest form the basis of all political decisions. We are fighting for a democracy where the people, not the elites, are in control – free from the corrupt influence of big corporations and lobbyists. We will hold accountable those who have tried to destroy our democracy with authoritarianism. We demand a future of peace in which the people decide our foreign policy – not tech billionaires, not the US imperialist order, not the arms industry or the elites in Brussels. The power belongs to the people, and that’s who we’ll listen to!

We are determined to challenge the powerful elites in Berlin and Brussels and to break away from the politics of the established parties. Our newly developed programme, which was presented at our party conference in November 2024, makes it clear that nothing will be achieved unless the interests of the many form the basis of our democracy!

Despite the unfair and undemocratic requirements imposed on small parties – such as the nearly 2,000 signatures required in just a few weeks in each federal state – MERA25 has successfully completed this hurdle in Berlin, NRW and Bremen. MERA25 is also close to finalising the collection of signatures in other federal states. These obstacles create an uneven playing field on which small parties must fight, and we are considering taking legal action to combat these unfair conditions in other states.

MERA25 participation in the 2025 federal election is a testament to the resilience of our movement and the unwavering commitment of our members. Day after day, they have mobilised, collected signatures and shown incredible dedication to make our vision of peace, solidarity and freedom a reality in Germany.

Specifically, MERA25 wants to implement the following:

  • Break the power of banks and lobbyists
  • The Green New Deal from below: A democratic socio-ecological turnaround instead of greenwashing
  • Abolish the debt brake, invest sustainably in public infrastructure, technological innovations and a sustainable society
  • Socialising common goods
  • Democracy in the economy: one person, one vote
  • Combat extreme wealth concentration and tax progressively
  • A job guarantee in the public sector
  • An unconditional living income
  • Data protection and digital self-determination
  • Open borders and equal rights for all
  • A peaceful, non-aligned Europe without NATO and geopolitical power games
  • International law instead of reasons of state: freedom for Palestine
  • Legal, institutional and social approaches for a secure and diverse society
  • An independent, united and democratic Europe of cities and regions

As MERA25 begins its campaign in these crucial states, it calls on the public, the media and all citizens to engage with our candidates and work together to shape our vision for the future. MERA25 is determined to challenge the establishment and stand up for the interests of the many, not the political elites.
