No to NATO. Yes to an independent Cyprus

Cyprus is at a crucial juncture. President Nikos Christodoulides’ intention to align Cyprus with NATO threatens both the sovereignty of our island and the fragile peace of our region.

NATO, representing the interests of imperial powers, has left a legacy of destruction in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. Its actions perpetuate suffering, not peace.

Cyprus is already deeply entangled in this imperialist machine. Sovereign military bases controlled by NATO-member Britain facilitate attacks on Palestine, while NATO forces from Greece, Turkey, and France have turned our island into a strategic military outpost. This militarisation not only undermines the sovereignty of Cyprus but also exposes its people to the risk of becoming collateral damage in conflicts they had no hand in choosing.

The way to a peaceful and secure future does not lie in closer integration with NATO or other imperialist alliances but in asserting true independence. Cyprus must rid itself of all foreign military presence – whether British or NATO – and reclaim its independence to serve the interests of its people, not the agendas of foreign powers.

No to NATO, No to foreign bases, yes to independent, reunified and peaceful Cyprus.
