DiEM25 and MERA25 support the call of the Anti-Siko Alliance and demand consistent disarmament and an authentic peace and security policy

MERA25 are firmly committed to a pan-European security architecture, a world without nuclear weapons, and a consistent disarmament policy. We want to break the spiral of armament and surveillance, decriminalise migration, end the exploitation and oppression of the Global South, and stand up for universal human rights.

We work for a Europe and a world as a space for peace and progress. Global justice and internationalism are, for us, the foundation for the survival of humanity. The Munich Security Conference should actually ensure the security of the world, but the major players here are only interested in expansion and armament.

This conference does not deserve the name “security”, which is why we support the call of the Anti-Siko Alliance. Worldwide, millions of people suffer from war, persecution, hunger, or oppression – often enabled, promoted, or deliberately accepted by the rulers whose representatives are meeting at the Bayerischer Hof.

What is the Anti-Siko Alliance?

The Anti-Siko Alliance is a coalition of activists, organisations, and grassroots movements that protest against the Munich Security Conference (Sicherheitskonferenz or “SiKo”), an annual gathering where political leaders, military officials, and defense industry representatives discuss global security policies.

The alliance criticizes the conference for being a platform that promotes militarisation, arms deals, and NATO-led interventions rather than genuine peace and diplomacy. Anti-Siko activists advocate for disarmament, anti-imperialism, and alternative security policies based on global justice and cooperation rather than military dominance.

What MERA25 demands

MERA25 demands a policy based on international law, the Geneva Conventions, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. A realignment of Israel-Palestine policy is long overdue, a policy that actively prevents the illegal occupation of Palestine. Existing conflicts, such as in Ukraine, can only be mitigated and resolved through a pan-European security architecture that includes all European countries.

We advocate for the EU to proactively prevent wars and the conditions leading to wars in its Common Foreign and Security Policy by negotiating a new international convention to eliminate the war industry. As a result, government military budgets should be reduced to finance humanity’s fight against climate damage.

We at MERA25 stand for the establishment of a New Non-Aligned Movement to fight for a socialist, democratic, and liberating New International Economic Order. We therefore want to ban the possession of weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, biological, and chemical). To ensure our collective survival, peace-oriented international relations must replace a militarily driven bloc mentality.

Therefore, we would like to make our position clear:

  • We stand with all peoples who suffer from invasion, displacement, aggression, and genocide
  • We demand an immediate ceasefire in every conflict, the withdrawal of occupation forces, and a comprehensive peace under the auspices of the United Nations
  • We oppose the division of the world into competing blocs that invest in rampant militarism, ultra-modern weapons of mass destruction, and a new Cold War. Therefore, we call for a non-aligned Europe without NATO
  • We demand a reckoning with the colonial past
  • We aim for an independent international judiciary without double standards. War crimes must be punished, regardless of who commits them, where they are committed, and for what purpose
  • We advocate for worldwide nuclear and military disarmament and call for an end to nuclear sharing and Germany’s accession to the Treaty on the Prohibition of nuclear weapons

We will be in Munich on February 14 and 15 with the following public participations:

  • On Friday, 14 February, at 19:30 (SOLD OUT)
  • Round table on the topic: Solidarity: A radical utopia
  • with Yanis Varoufakis & Melanie Schweizer, Lucie Kirstein, Ramona Rösch

  • On Saturday, 15 February, at 15:00
  • Speech by Yanis Varoufakis at the Antisiko
    Marienplatz

Munich tragedy

We are deeply shaken by the attack on a demonstration march in Munich today, which resulted in at least 28 people, including a child, being seriously injured. We are appalled and shocked by this act, and our heartfelt sympathy and solidarity are with the victims and their families. We sincerely hope that no one will succumb to their injuries. This attack is a significant blow to many, and we stand in full solidarity with all those affected. While the background and consequences of the attack remain unclear, we will refrain from speculation and await the results of the police investigations. We will keep everyone informed about any potential impact on our protests.
