DiEM25’s Germany tour: Yanis Varoufakis on peace in the Middle East and justice for people in Germany

DiEM25 is thrilled to announce a tour across Germany featuring our very own Yanis Varoufakis, the prominent economist and former Greek Finance Minister.

The tour aims to talk up the prospect of peace in the Middle East, justice for the people in Germany and to revitalise and relaunch the MERA25 political party in the country, as well as to boost the signature collection campaign ahead of the upcoming European Elections.

After taking part in the Berlinale premiere of Raoul Martinez’s documentary series ‘In the Eye of the Storm’ that explores Varoufakis’ life and work, the co-founder of our organisation will head to Munich on February 17 where he will give a speech on behalf of DiEM25 at the end of the protest against the annual NATO Security Conference around 15:30 at Marienplatz. The demonstration itself will take place at 13:00.

Later that day, Varoufakis will participate in the session ‘On the Way Towards a Block-Free and Peaceful World’ at the Peace in Progress panel of the 22nd Peace Conference at the Philosophy Faculty of Munich University at 20:00.

The following day, on February 18 at 17:00 in Frankfurt, MERA25 and DiEM25 in Germany will present the event ‘How We Get Our Future Back’. The event will kick off with a discussion with Yanis Varoufakis and the economist Helge Peukert about Germany and Europe’s political and economic situation, pointing at the possible ways out of the rise of the right wing on the continent, followed by a presentation by Karin de Rigo, the leading MERA25 Germany candidate for the 2024 European Elections, together with other activists from our organisation in Germany on how we will take our destiny into our own hands.
