MERA25 Germany presents official candidates for the 2024 European elections under the slogan “Live and Decide Independently”

Karin De Rigo and Johannes Fehr are the official lead candidates of MERA25 Germany for the 2024 European elections. The candidates were elected during the party conference on Saturday, November 25 at the Lessing-Gymnasium-Berufskolleg in Düsseldorf.

The two will represent the positions of MERA25 Germany in the 2024 European elections. The political election programme was adopted by DiEM25 and MERA25 members from various countries of origin, in a process held as an online popular assembly, where members were asked to contribute, help develop and approve the political programme. 

Karin De Rigo

Karin De Rigo has been a member of DiEM25 for over a year, and acts as coordinator of the local group in Berlin. With her professional background as a buyer, she has extensive experience in online and offline retail. Her interests include philosophy, politics and sustainability with a focus on fashion. Born and raised in Italy, she studied languages and economics in Milan and now lives in Germany.

“An independent Europe could help the people who are now dying in Gaza and put pressure on the Israeli government for a ceasefire. MERA25 will campaign for this and always stand for just peace and against war and occupation.”

Johannes Fehr

Johannes Fehr is a member of DiEM25 since its founding in 2016, and has continuously expanded his active role in the movement. Initially working as the coordinator of the local group in Berlin, he organised events and protests before becoming the organising director for DiEM25 at European level.

He is a member of DiEM25’s coordinating collective and vice-chair of the board of its political party in Germany: MERA25. With his expertise in renewable energy and energy efficiency, he is committed to a just and ecological transition and a sustainable future.

“The time is up. Green transition must be implemented now. Many people are already achieving the climate targets, but a few rich people are not. We want to change that. This is climate justice in action and MERA25 will campaign for it.”

 

MERA25 Germany’s political programme

Social prosperity through a universal living income, a real sustainable green transition paid for by the super-rich and the realisation of an independent Europe committed to peace and prosperity worldwide are at the heart of MERA25 Germany’s pan-European political programme. With this focus, MERA25 Germany offers a clear and coherent alternative to the political programmes of the existing parties.

DiEM25 and its political parties MERA25 in Greece, Italy and Germany are actively preparing the road for the 2024 European elections, with the latter being the first country to officially announce its candidates. The next step for MERA25 Germany is to collect the necessary signatures to register the party for the 2024 European elections.
