Yanis Varoufakis to make official visit to Cuba

The co-founder of DiEM25 will hold talks with the president on a range of topics including the Athens Declaration

Upon an invitation from the Cuban government, Yanis Varoufakis will visit Cuba from January 25-30 representing MeRA25 and Progressive International.

In Havana, Varoufakis will hold talks with president Miguel Díaz-Canel, finance minister Macy Bilianos, and former president Raul Castro.

In addition to the exchange of views on the international economic and geopolitical situation, a key topic of discussion will be the initiative of Progressive International, launched with the Athens Declaration last May, for the creation of a New Non-Aligned Movement.

In addition, the general secretary of MeRA25 will be a keynote speaker at the 5th International Conference on Global Reconciliation with a speech on “The Causes and Nature of the New Cold War”.

During his visit to Cuba, Varoufakis will be accompanied by a large Progressive International delegation including, among others, Andres Arauz, former finance minister and presidential candidate of Ecuador.
