Greek oligarchy is going after MeRA25’s Kleon Gregoriadis after calling out Russian oil hypocrisy

The MeRA25 MP called out Mitsotakis’ hypocrisy of protecting shipping magnates in light of their transportation of Russian oil

A lawsuit has been filed against MeRA25 MP Kleon Gregoriadis by shipowner Yiannis Alafouzos for calling out the hypocritical defence that the industry has received from the Greek government.

The Mitsotakis government has imposed a veto before the European Union in favour of shipowners on the issue of transportation of Russian oil.

Gregoriadis harshly criticised the Mitsotakis government for the aforementioned veto, highlighting the fact that such measures are only introduced to protect the super-rich and yet never for the everyday Greek citizen.

“Five different governments did not put in place such a veto to protect Greeks from hunger and poverty, yet you enforced it the other day for Greek shipowners, just in case they get hurt,” Gregoriadis said.

“Shipowners own media. Mr. Marinakis owns MEGA, TA NEA and TO VIMA. Mr. Alafouzos owns SKAI, KATHIMERINI. Mr. Vardinoyannis owns ALPHA and STAR…

“So the owners of these media outlets, who brand you a ‘Putin-ite’ as soon as you express any free opinion about the government’s handling of the Ukrainian problem – Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – transported 50% of Russian oil to the world in the month of April.”

The move to sue Gregoriadis is further proof that when the oligarchy’s silver-tongued political staff cannot defend itself at the political level, the lawsuit industry of the oligarchy itself takes over.

DiEM25 condemns the audacious attempt from the Greek oligarchy to go after Kleon Gregoriadis for accurately highlighting the blatant hypocrisy of both the government and the shipping tycoons.
